Firefox Market Share Slips in July

  • August 16, 2005
The market share of the open source browser Firefox slipped by to 8.07 percent in July from a high of 8.07 percent in June, according to NetApplications, a Web tracking technology firm. Until last month's dip in market share, Firefox had steadily gained ground since the release of its 1.0 version last November. The share Firefox lost last month was ceded, at least in part, to Goliath competitor Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which saw its market share grow to 87.2 percent from 86.56 percent in June. Mozilla, the non-profit that distributes Firefox's open source code, earlier this month established a for-profit arm that will market the browser.
