Bonnier Names Joe Brown New York VP, Editorial Director

 

Popular Science EIC Joe Brown will be Bonnier’s vice president, editorial director, New York. His appointment is effective immediately.

In this role, Brown will oversee editorial operations for Field & StreamOutdoor Life and Saveur. He will remain at the helm of Popular Science in his new position.

Brown, who began his journalism career as an assistant editor at Popular Science in 2002, became the title’s EIC in 2016, following a role as executive editor at Wired and time as EIC of Gizmodo.

As Popular Science EIC, Brown oversaw transformative moves across print and digital, including the transition of the once monthly magazine to quarterly-themed issues. The brand has recorded audience growth in both print and digital categories under his leadership.

Earlier this year, Popular Science won a National Magazine Award for “The Tiny Issue” in the Single-Topic Issue category. It was also nominated for a General Excellence Award in the Literature, Science and Politics category.

Brown takes over from Anthony Licata, who left Bonnier earlier this month to become EIC of MeatEater, Inc. Licata was also EIC of Field & Stream for 10 years.

Separately, Teen Vogue has appointment several new staffers to its editorial team, including two new positions: fashion and beauty director and culture and entertainment features director.

Tahirah Hairston takes the role of fashion and beauty director. She will lead the brand’s style coverage, including fashion, beauty and shopping. She was previously deputy editor of Lenny Letter.

Joining Hairston is Danielle Kwateng-Clark, as culture and entertainment features director. She joins Teen Vogue from Vice’s Broadly. 

Finally, Bianca Nieves has been named Teen Vogue’s commerce editor, and Christin Davitt its senior social media manager. Davitt begins her role May 6, following her role as social-media manager at Vanity Fair.
