Gmail Users Hit By Outage On Monday

Gmail says it is resolving an outage that began on Monday afternoon, although some users report continuing problems.

Downdetector reports that the slowdown started at 1:09 EDT on Monday, and that 80% of the incoming comments complained of log-in difficulties.

“gmail saying err too many redirects?” wrote one around midnight EDT.

“I logged out of my Gmail box and haven't been able to login since,” wrote another earlier Monday evening. “Gmail is sending codes to my phone for two-step verification, but it is NOT sending codes to a designated back-up email."

The downdetector map showed that the outages hit the Northeastern and Southwestern United States and other locations through the world, although not at the highest level of severity.

Gmail stated: “The problem with Gmail should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better Affected messages will be retried and delivered with additional delays.”

Last month, Gmail experienced outages in the U.S., largely in the Northeast and Southern California.

The problems began on Monday May 6, spiking around 5:20 p.m. EDT.

Gmail said it had corrected the issue later that evening.
