Viacom to Buy L.A. TV Station

Viacom Inc. is purchasing KCAL Channel 9, an independent Los Angeles broadcast television station, for a "rumored" price of $600 million, the Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday, citing insiders. Viacom, which owns the CBS television network and its Los Angeles affiliate, would operate both local stations, the Times said. Reportedly, since Viacom owns both the CBS and UPN networks, the company could eventually seek to switch KCAL to UPN.
