U.S. Is Home To 25% Of World's BEC Cyber Criminals: Report

Email crime in the United States is dwarfed by that which originates overseas, according to a new report by Agari.

Of all the email fraudsters detected, 50% are based in Nigeria, and 25% are in the U.S.

However, that 25% is pretty significant. Within the U.S., 40% of email scammers are located in California, Georgia, Florida, Texas, and New York.

The cities with the larger clusters of scammers are Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Houston and Miami.

Cyber criminals requested U.S. $64 million in funds. The Agari Cyber Intelligence Division (ACID) identified 2,900 global money mule bank accounts, of which more than 900 were within the U.S.

The average amount sought for Hong Kong money mule accounts is U.S. $247,000.
