The Washington Post has
hired Will Oremus as technology news analysis writer, starting June 21, part of a major expansion of the paper’s technology coverage.
In his previous role, Oremus was senior
writer for OneZero, Medium’s science and tech publication, where he wrote a weekly newsletter called Pattern Matching.
Prior to that, Oremus was
Slate’s senior technology writer and co-host of the Slate podcast “If Then.” His work has also appeared in The New York Times and The Atlantic. He
served as a local news reporter at the Palo Alto Daily News earlier in his career.
“Will’s work blends timely analysis of major tech news and features
that scrutinize influential ideas and products, from the demetrication of social
media to the inner workings of Pinterest's recommendation
algorithm,” according to an announcement from deputy business editor Zachary Goldfarb and technology dditor Christina Passariello.

In 2012, Oremus was nominated for a National
Magazine Award for an interactive feature that visualized that year’s U.S. presidential campaign as an horse race.
Earlier this year, WaPo added eight positions to
its technology reporting team, making a roster of 35 reporters, editors and video journalists. And in 2018, it announced a big investment in technology coverage, including creation of a San Francisco
bureau and 11 new staff positions.
At that time, WaPo said its technology coverage saw a 40% growth in readership in 2020.
