'The Information' Starts Pub Focused On Electric Vehicles

The Information, a site that covers the tech industry, may have found a new revenue source: It is launching a niche product on batteries and electric vehicles that is not included with the parent title’s annual $400 professional subscription fee — a first, according to Axios.

The new offering, The Electric, will be edited by Steve LeVine, a veteran of Medium, Axios and Quartz. The Electric will provide a weekly newsletter and email updates; it will also conduct events and briefings.

The exact payment details have not yet been worked out.

"Today's leaders want curation, exposure to other writers, maybe in adjacent fields,” CEO-founder Jessica Lessin explained the strategy to Axios. “Great publications have always been curators, but mostly through opinion and op-ed kind of arms."

Subscribers to The Information can also access the Creator Economy database, a listing of private startups.

The Information offers newsletters on crypto, the creator economy and other topics, most running four times a week. It also has a Chinese-language newsletter on China that appears every other week.
