Nielsen Completes First Phase Of National People Meter Expansion

Nielsen Media Research Thursday said it has completed the first phase of its plan to double the size of its national people meter sample, adding 2,000 additional households over a two-year period. Nielsen said the expansion was accomplished independent of its controversial roll out of people meters in its local market ratings systems. Nielsen next year plans to complete its national people meter expansion 10,000 households, which will be drawn from its local people meter systems in 10-metered markets. To date, seven of these 10 markets have been integrated. -- Joe Mandese
