'Newsweek' Rolls Out 2 New Podcasts

Newsweek today announced the launch of two new podcasts, adding to its growing roster of audio content.

“The Parting Shot,” a weekly show focusing on pop culture hosted by the writer and comedian H. Alan Scott, is modeled on the iconic last page of the print magazine. The first two episodes feature interviews with Hilary Duff and Cecily Strong, offering some celebrity power to the program’s rollout.

The new podcast, which kicked off last week and will be released every Friday, will also provide awards-show coverage, conversations with insiders from the entertainment industry, and a look at other elements of pop culture, from movies and television to streaming, music, and books.

Newsweek’s other new podcast is “The Leisure Class,” hosted by the musician Jack Sonni, a former guitarist for Dire Straits. The show will look at music, spirits, food, and lifestyle through Jack’s distinctive lens, with a nod to his Southern roots. The program will be weekly, launching today.

“Through my years spent as a musician, writer, marketing executive, father and grandfather, I’ve learned that you can’t take life for granted,” Sonni said. “This show is an extension of that philosophy, an ode to the beautiful moments, music, and meals we should savor. I can’t wait to trade stories with my guests and keep learning every week alongside Newsweek’s listeners.”

Newsweek's stable of podcasts has already grown this year to include additional political programming like “The Josh Hammer Show,” as well as more lighthearted fare, including “The Royal Report” podcast about the British royal family. In 2021, it launched “The Debate,“ “The Diplomat,” and “The Daily Break,” all weekly political shows complementing the organization’s editorial mission.
