ABC News has decided that two is better than one when it comes to anchoring its centerpiece news program, "World News Tonight," naming Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff as co-anchors. The two will
officially start January 3.
The show will spice things up by becoming the first nightly network newcast to broadcast a live nightly version to the West Coast. In addition, "WNT" will make
various versions of its reports available over the Internet throughout the afternoon and evening.
Charles Gibson had been another top candidate for the position. He remains as co-anchor of
"Good Morning America." Vargas and Woodruff replace the late Peter Jennings, who died earlier this year. Vargas will remain co-anchor of ABC News' "20/20." Woodruff has been the anchor of the weekend
editions of "World News Tonight."
