Joe Angel, president
of PMMI, the association for packaging technologies and one of the best-known names in B2B media, is relinquishing the reins of the business and stepping into a new role later this year, the
organization announced last week.
Current Executive Vice President Dave Newcorn will become president as of Oct. 1, the organization said. “This was my decision to turn over the reins to
Dave and focus more on industry outreach for PMMI — thus an expanded role because I will be touching all aspects of PMMI, but still have customer interface with PMMI Media Group,” Angel
said in an exclusive interview with Publishers Daily. “Note, I will be still be full time, so not retiring.”
Angel was one of the three founding partners of Summit Media
Group in 1993, the company that launched Packaging World in 1994. PMMI acquired Summit in 2014, and Angel was named president of the combined organization, PMMI Media Group.

In his new role, he will help support PMMI’s outreach to educational institutions, other industry organizations, and the association’s members.
“I started my media
career in packaging and processing in 1984,” Angel said in a press statement. “At this stage, I want to give back, and my passion and experience will enable me to help PMMI in our
continuing effort to advance the industry."
Newcorn was promoted to executive vice president last year. Since Chicago-based PMMI’s acquisition of Summit, he’s played a key role in
the integration of the two organizations. He also delivered a combined data strategy bolstering PMMI’s PACK EXPO tradeshow operations, and helped the Media Group launch new digital and print
technologies.
“Joe will be fabulously successful in his new role and a tough act to follow,” Newcorn said. “Fortunately, I’ll have the help of longtime company
veterans... as well as exciting up-and-coming talent at PMMI Media Group to ensure that we continue to innovate how we serve our audience and advertisers alike.”
