Tribune Slashes Workforce, Takes Charge

Wednesday, amid another round of dour 2006 ad spending outlooks issued by major newspaper publishers, one of the biggest, Tribune Co., said it was in the process of cutting about 900 jobs, or about 4 percent of its staff. The company said it would take a $90 million to $105 million charge during the fourth quarter related to the cuts and the shutdown of its Los Angeles Times production facility. -- Joe Mandese
