Philadelphia , San Francisco, and New Orleans are all confirmed to offer municipal Wi-Fi to consumers in their respective metropolitan areas, and New York City lawmakers are now reportedly taking a
look at municipal broadband in their city, too. However, connecting New York is a much more complex challenge, primarily because it's a much bigger city than the other three. According to Cnet, the
New York project can't really be called a project yet, because the city is still trying to get a commission together to look at the issue. A state bill is currently being revised that would create a
special commission to advise Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the city council about how to proceed with municipal broadband. The bill will come to a vote on Dec. 21. This could be the biggest deployment
of municipal broadband in the world, if the plan comes to fruition. Analysts seem to think it will happen eventually.
