The Ring Magazine, the famed boxing title, is ceasing publication as a print title after 100 years, reports state.
The final print cover, for the
November-December issue, features a photo of Jack Dempsey, who was the heavyweight champion when the magazine first appeared.
The continuing website has a paywall for access to
content.
Founded in 1922 by Nat Fleischer, the magazine endured many ups and downs, reflecting the fortunes of the sport it covered.
At one time, it had
to include a wrestling section because boxing was in the doldrums and wrestling was popular.
However, the rise of Muhammad Ali rekindled interest in boxing and the wrestling section was
discarded.
Fleischer died in 1972, and was succeeded by his son-in-law Nat Loubet. In 1979 the property was taken over by Burt Randolph Sugar.
The Ring published an
annual record book during its heyday. But boxing records are now available online.
