Tom Breen Named Editor of New Haven Independent

The New Haven Independent has named Tom Breen, current managing editor, as editor.

Breen, who started as a writer nonprofit online news daily in 2015, will be responsible for editing and publishing all Independent stories on a daily basis, the publication states. 

He replaces Paul Bass, who founded the Independent in 2005 as one of the nation’s first two professional nonprofit local news sites.  

Bass will continue working at the Independent, serving as executive director of the Online Journalism Project, the nonprofit project that publishes the New Haven Independentand Valley Independent Sentinel and broadcasts WNHH FM. Bass will also host WNHH’s “Dateline New Haven” program.
