Starbucks Enters The Metaverse

 

Starbucks this month began beta-testing a new rewards program called Starbucks Odyssey, powered by Web 3 technology, that offers members immersive experiences. 

The initial invitations were sent to a small group of waitlist members and Starbucks partners in December. Next month, Starbucks plans to send out monthly invitations to a larger group of members on the wait list.

Those who opt for Odyssey will use their Starbucks Rewards login to access “Journeys” -- interactive activities like taking a virtual tour of a Starbucks coffee farm in Costa Rica or answering trivia about Starbucks’ heritage.

Once a Journey is complete, members will get a Journey Stamp (a Polygon-based NFT) and bonus points toward their overall Point total. Members collect Stamps to up their overall Point total.

Soon after the beta launch, members will have access to the Starbucks Odyssey market powered by Nifty Gateway, where they can buy or sell Starbucks Odyssey digital collectible stamps among members with Polygon as the blockchain.

In early 2023, members will be able to purchase limited-edition stamps (NFTs) via the Starbucks Odyssey market.

    I jsut want a GD cup of coffee, I don't need an immersive experience on a coffee plantation and journey credits.  Christ, can't I just get a cup of coffee?
