Oldie But Goodie: KFC Re-Intros Chicken Nuggets

KFC has reintroduced chicken nuggets, an item that hasn’t been on the menu since 1996.

"As the original fried chicken experts, we're introducing a chicken nugget made the way only KFC can -- hand-breaded with our distinctive Original Recipe of 11 herbs and spices," said Nick Chavez, CMO KFC U.S., in a press release.

The 100% white-meat nuggets, introduced on March 27, start at $3.49. The nuggets can be paired with KFC Sauce, Honey BBQ, Classic Ranch, Honey Mustard or Buffalo Ranch.

KFC relaunched the nuggets in a “wildly successful” test run last year. The item will be added to the chain's permanent menu at participating locations. It's available starting as a five-piece combo, then eight, 12 or 36 pieces.

KFC originally introduced chicken nuggets in 1984. They were discontinued in 1996 when they were replaced by Crispy Strips. KFC’s original introduction came about three years after McDonald’s introduced Chicken McNuggets in select markets in 1981.

This latest launch comes after KFC introduced KFC Wraps in February and reintroduced the Double Down sandwich for four weeks starting March 6.
