The long-awaited fifth season premiere of Fox's "24" scored big ratings, turning in its most-watched episode ever Sunday night. The premiere benefited from a strong lead-in: Fox Sports' coverage of
the NFL's NFC divisional playoff game between the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears. Airing from about 8:13-9:11 p.m. (ET), the first episode of "24" averaged 17 million viewers and a 7.3 rating ,
according to preliminary Nielsen ratings.
