Stitcher, the podcast listening app and web service, is being discontinued by its owner SiriusXM, effective August 29, according to a post published on Tuesday.
The company
will incorporate podcasts into its SiriusXM subscription business.
Automatic renewal of Premium subscription plans ended on Tuesday. Stitcher Premium subscriptions are no longer
available.
However, subscribers to SiriusXM’s Platinum VIP and and Platinum plans will still be able to access the Stitcher app and listen to Stitcher
Premium content until the August shutdown.
“Subscribers can listen to podcasts within the SiriusXM app and will see an all-new listening experience later this year,” the
company states.
Refunds will be directly handled by the app stores, Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Going forward, “Hosts/creators will determine
availability and accessibility of their shows,” SiriusXM writes.
SiriusXM will continue to operate its Stitcher Studios and Earwolf
networks.
Stitcher’s Premium service, which provided ad-free podcasts, cost $4.95/month or $34.99/year, according to Variety.
