Buzzfeed’s chief financial officer Felicia
DellaFortuna, will leave the company before the end of November to pursue a new opportunity, BuzzFeed announced on Friday.
DellaFortuna will be succeeded as CFO by Matt Omer, who now
serves executive vice president of finance and treasurer. Omer starts on Nov. 6.
Omer joined BuzzFeed in 2019. DellaFortuna joined the staff in 2015 as senior director of finance, and
was named CFO in February 2020.
“Felicia has been a key member of our executive team and an outstanding contributor to the company as we’ve grown, adapted, become a public company,
and defined the digital media landscape,” says Jonah Peretti, founder and CEO of BuzzFeed, Inc.
Omer has held key financial positions at 123 Home Care, and Viant Technology.
Earlier this year, BuzzFeed closed its news service, BuzzFeed News, while instituting a 15% staff cut. Peretti conceded in an email to staff that the firm had overinvested in the news division and
was slow to see it would not be profitable.
Peretti has also reported that BuzzFeed would leverage artificial intelligence and other technologies as part of an ambitious digital
agenda.
