Future, the UK-based publisher of 230 magazines and specialist media brands, has seen its revenue slip due to weaker results in the U.S.
U.S. revenue fell by 19%, due in part to disappointing results in the technology vertical “as well as being less advanced on the execution of the strategy in comparison to the UK business,” the company says.
The advertising & other category in the U.S. fell by 8% but general magazine revenue grew by 4%.
The company cites these challenges and opportunities in the U.S.:
- Closely linked to website users performance as earlier stage on execution of the strategy; fewer leadership positions
- Higher tech concentration in the portfolio
- Lower mix of direct sales
- Less diversified mix (lower magazines and no affiliate services revenue)
- Overall, Future posted £788.9 million in revenue, down 4% YoY; profit fell by 7% to £174.5 million
