Print erosion continues among small local newspapers. Chico News & Review (CN&R), a publication that serves Butte County, California, will publish its last print issue on Jan. 11, 2020 and will now exist solely as a digital publication.
Jason Cassidy, editor, CN&R, announced the news “with a heavy heart.”
Cassidy
wrote, “For the past three-and-a-half years, the newspaper has persevered, publishing monthly with the hope that ad sales would bounce back post-COVID pandemic.
Unfortunately, they haven’t, and we find ourselves at a crossroads.”
Looking forward, CN&R will persist in its mission online, where it will
“channel our resources toward enhancing coverage of local government and continuing as the go-to resource for local arts information,” Casssidy adds.
Cassidy invites readers to donate to the CN&R “as we endeavor to keep community journalism alive.”
The publication does not appear to
have a paywall.
