Johnny Rockets and Hurricane Wings now have more in common in Los Angeles than flight-themed names.
Today Fat Brands Inc. announced the grand opening of its first Johnny Rockets and Hurricane Wings co-branded restaurant on the West Coast, located in the Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra.
Late last year the Los Angeles-based parent company opened its first co-branded Johnny Rockets/Hurricane Wings location, in Washington D.C. at the Holiday Inn Washington-Central/White House.
“Similar to Fatburger and Buffalo’s Express, Johnny Rockets and Hurricane Wings have great synergy together: Both (are) family-oriented brands with loyal followings,” Jake Berchtold, COO of Fat Brands’ fast-casual division, said in a release.
Customers can now order a classic Johnny Rockets’ meal of a burger, fries and shake along with Hurricane Wings’ bone-in or boneless jumbo wings.

Johnny Rockets originally began in Los Angeles on Melrose Avenue in June of 1986, during the height of the street’s popularity in the new wave/punk rock scene. The location’s 1950s retro décor and vintage-dressed servers stuck out among the mohawks, fishnet and neon of the time and was popular with tourists for people-watching. Changing area demographics forced the location’s closure in 2015, according to Eater Los Angeles.
Fat Brands acquires, markets, and develops fast-casual, quick-service, casual dining, and polished casual dining concepts. Its portfolio includes Round Table Pizza, Fatburger, Marble Slab Creamery, Fazoli’s, Twin Peaks, Great American Cookies, Smokey Bones, Hot Dog on a Stick, Ponderosa and Bonanza Steakhouses.
