Jake Grovum Takes On An Expanded Role At 'The New York Times'

Jake Grovum, deputy off-platform editor, who has helped lead the presentation of New York Times journalism on social media, is taking on the new role of editor for social media and emerging platforms.

Grovum will now lead the newsroom’s strategy and programming for all social platforms, according to a post by Anna Dubenko, newsroom audience director for the Times.

“For almost two years, Jake has helped to shape the way Times journalism appears on social media,” Dubenko writes. “Leading a team of editors around the world, he’s overseen our social coverage for elections, conflicts and breaking news, and has collaborated across the newsroom on some of our most impactful, signature journalism.”

Grovum will “partner with news desks, with Tyson Wheatley and the Social Visuals group, as well as the larger visual departments to make sure that our journalism reaches the widest possible audience and is shared in the most compelling and engaging way possible,” Dubenko writes.

She adds, “He’ll work closely with desks that run their own social accounts, as well as audience teams on subscription brands to advise on best practices and help spur collaboration.”

Grovum joined the Times in 2019. Previously, he served The Financial Times as U.S. head of audience engagement.
