Rhona Tarrant Named Executive Editor Of CBS News Confirmed

Rhona Tarrant has been appointed as executive editor of CBS News Confirmed, the new verification and fact-checking initiative at CBS News, effective April 1.

Tarrant has worked with the Google News Initiative and Storyful, training journalists on how to detect misinformation and disinformation, CBS says.

CBS News Confirmed was launched last year as a way to identify IA-generated deepfakes and misinformation, it adds.

Tarrant is “one of the leading journalists and editors in the world working in and breaking new ground in the area of verifying information,” says Claudia Milne, senior vice president for CBS News, to whom Tarrant will report.

For her part, Tarrant said that the “rise of generative AI and online misinformation has made the role of journalists more critical than ever.”

Tarrant has also served at WNYC Radio in New York and at RTÉ Radio and Television in Dublin.
