Gannett Is Closing A New Jersey Production Facility, 140 Staffers To Be Affected

Gannett is closing a Cherry Hill, New Jersey production facility that serves the Courier-Post and several other newspapers in southern New Jersey, effective in June.

Roughly 140 full- and part-time employees in the mailroom and press operations will be affected, according to the Courier Post.

The news staff will continue to operate out of the company’s Cherry Hill office. This staff produces the Courier-Post, the Burlington County Times and the Vineland Daily Journal.

Production of the Courier-Post, Burlington County Times and Daily Journal will move to Gannett’s Rockaway, NJ, facility, the paper says. The other publications will be handled at Gannett’s facility in Wilmington, Delaware.

The company defended the decision based on changes in the news business.

“Decisions such as these, though challenging, are essential for maintaining our ability to deliver high-quality coverage to our readers, provide effective advertising platforms for our clients, and invest in the future of local journalism,” said Karen Guarasi, regional vice president, sales for the Courier-Post and other New Jersey markets.

However, the team insisted that the journalism will not be affected.

The Courier-Post and our South Jersey papers are committed to delivering local coverage that impacts the communities we serve,” says Courier-Post executive editor Audrey Harvin.

Harvin adds, “While we work in a challenging environment as our industry evolves, our commitment to readers does not change.”
