Anastasia Nyrkovskaya has been named chief executive officer of Fortune Media, the first woman to hold that title.  

Nyrkovskaya, who joined Fortune in 2019 and has served as chief strategy and chief financial officer, was one of the first executives to serve Fortune when it became an independent media company. 

She replaces Alan Murray, the CEO since 2018 who had announced last October that he planned to step down this month. 

Nyrkovskaya is credited with playing a key role in Fortune’s digital transformation, the diversification of its business model beyond magazine publishing, global brand-building and expansion of the newsroom under Alyson Shontell.

During her tenure as CFO, Fortune posted three successive years of profits through 2023.

“As Chief Strategy and Finance Officer, Anastasia has steered Fortune through three years of profitable growth—almost unheard of in the legacy magazine business,” Murray says.

He adds, “She has helped lead Fortune's transformation into a profitable global multi-platform media company and is the right person to lead it into its second century.”

Prior to Fortune, Nyrkovskaya served in senior finance and accounting roles at NBCUniversal, KPMG, and XpresSpa Group.  

Fortune was founded by Henry Luce at Time Inc. in 1929.
