'Game Informer,' A Gaming Magazine, Is Closing

Game Informer, a gaming magazine started in 1991, is closing, the publication announced on Friday.

“After 33 years of bringing you the latest news, reviews and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Game Informer,” the magazine says on its site.

It continues, “From the early days of pixelated adventures to today's immersive virtual realms, we've been honored to share this incredible journey with you, our loyal readers.”

There was no word on how many staffers would be affected at the Minnesota-based title, or if this is part of a larger problem afflicting the gaming industry.

Game Informer was founded as a newsletter by game retailer FuncoLand, which was later acquired by GameStop.

GameStop lost $32.2 million in the first quarter of this year, according to Bring Me The News.

Game Informer continues, “While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we've cultivated together will continue to live on.”
