Paxton Media Group is consolidating several Illinois newsrooms into one.
The Paducah Sun building in Paducah will be home to The Mayfield Messenger, The Marshall County Tribune-Courier, Metropolis Planet, The Lyon County Herald Ledger, The Princeton Times Leader, The Southern Illinoisan, The Paducah Sun and WPSD Local 6 in the spring of 2025, according to WPSD.
The consolidation of these newsrooms into one agnostic-platform news hub will cost $2 million.
“Instead of having eight different newsrooms, we now have one regional newsroom that is connected electronically to the two satellite newsrooms that we have, one in Southern Illinois and one in Benton,” says Bill Evans, general manager of WPSD and publisher of The Paducah Sun.
Evans adds, “We have leadership of the executive editor, the executive producers, the editors, all of that now has been centralized, and we all march with one vision in covering the news.”
Perry Boxx, news director of WPSD and executive editor of The Paducah Sun, comments, “Everything in here is going to be designed for the flow of information and efficiency. There are so many smart people who work gathering news for us, and they have them all in one place.”
