Nuzzi Leaves 'New York' Magazine, Review Finds No Wrongdoing

New York magazine and the greater journalistic world are reeling from a scandal that may take time to unravel.

High-profile political reporter Olivia Nuzzi is leaving the magazine after reports that she had a personal relationship with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., although an investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing on her part.

The episode is unsettling both for journalists and their employers.

New York, which this week published a feature titled, “Can the Media Survive?” apparently opted to adhere to traditional norms during this campaign year, although again Nuzzi reportedly did not allow any personal relationship to compromise her reporting.

Was it an overreaction or an unfolding of strict journalistic propriety?

“Last month, the magazine enlisted the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine to review Olivia Nuzzi’s work during the 2024 campaign,” New York said in a statement on its website. “They reached the same conclusion as the magazine’s initial internal review of her published work, finding no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias. Nevertheless, the magazine and Nuzzi agreed that the best course forward is to part ways. Nuzzi is a uniquely talented writer and we have been proud to publish her work over her nearly eight years as our Washington Correspondent. We wish her the best."
