OpenAI has run into a legal problem in
Asia.
Asian News International (ANI) has filed suit in a New Delhi court, accusing OpenAI of publishing its content to train its large language
models.
The suit also charges that OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT, serves ANI content verbatim in response to queries, the Hindustan Times
reports.
In addition, the suit claims that OpenAI attributed fabricated news stories to ANI.
ANI also alleged that OpenAI
"refused to obtain a lawful license or permission" to use its works even while it has entered into licensing agreements with publishers such as The Financial Times.
According to Hindustan
Times, OpenAI issued this statement: “We take great care in our products and design process to support news organizations. We are actively engaged in constructive partnerships and
conversations with many news organizations around the world, including India, to explore opportunities, listen to feedback, and work collaboratively.”
