January Cold Front: Dotdash Meredith Cuts 143 Staffers

When you set out for work in the morning, do you ever wonder if you will still have a job that night?

In the latest staff reduction to hit the publishing business, Dotdash Meredith has laid off 143 staffers across multiple departments, effective Thursday, the company has confirmed.

“The media landscape is changing rapidly, and we must change along with it,” CEO Neil Vogel wrote in an internal memo. “As we have talked about, we will be significantly increasing investment in projects that help us connect directly with our audiences and connect directly with our advertisers, which we believe are our biggest opportunities.”

Vogel added, “Today’s actions, while never easy, allow us to better align our investments with these goals.

This follows a layoff that affected 53 employees at Dotdash Meredith in November 2024.

But Vogel adds, “In 2024, we grew headcount by 170 employees adding new skillsets and capabilities, and we expect to do the same in 2025. We are as confident and optimistic as ever in our brands, our people, and our prospects.

He called for an all-hands meeting in the near future.

Axios was first with the story.

Dotdash Meredith publishes numerous high-profile consumer titles, including People and Better Homes & Gardens.

This is just the latest layoff to affect media staffs in the new year. Meta, The Washington Post,  HuffPost and Vox have all instituted cuts.

A Dotdash Meredith spokesperson says, “We are grateful to those leaving the company, whose efforts and talent have been significant contributors to our business.”
