Just days after announcing that John Ridding is stepping down as chief executive officer of The Financial Times Group, the publisher has named Jon Slade as CEO, effective July 1.
Slade, who has spent 20 years at The FT Group, is currently chief commercial officer. He is responsible for three quarters of the FT Group’s annual revenue of more than a half billion pounds, including global advertising, print circulation, consultancy and subscription income. He joined the company’s management board in 2014,
The new CEO is credited with restoring ad growth during an industry decline, streamlining print operations and building FT’s consulting business.
“Jon’s substantial experience has given him a deep understanding of the FT Group, and areas where there is rich territory for future growth,” says Naotoshi Okada, chairman and group CEO of owner Nikkei. “I have been impressed by his vision for the business, and awareness of the competitive, economic and geopolitical challenges that impact our industry.”
