Staffers Vote To Walk Out At 'The Bergen Record'

Gannett is facing a walkout at the Bergen (New Jersey) Record.

Union members have voted to strike in an effort to reach a favorable contract agreement.

The Record Guild represents 68 editorial employees. Among its members, 92% turned out and approved the walkout by 95%.

“We’re willing to do what it takes to get a contract done,” says Kaitlyn Kanzler, union chair of the Record Guild and courthouse reporter for The Record. “There is no journalism without us, the dedicated journalists who live in and report on North Jersey’s local communities.”

Recently, walkouts were averted at six Gannett titles in New Jersey and New York when employees agreed on a contract providing "life-changing" increases in pay and job protections. The publications include the Asbury Park Press, Courier News, Home News Tribune, The Journal News, Poughkeepsie Journal and Times Herald-Record.
