'The Washington Post' Kills Its Streaming TV Channel: Report

The Washington Post has eliminated its streaming TV channel, Washington Post TV.

The publisher, in the midst of layoffs and a newsroom revolt, apparently saw the channel as a low priority, and has let its contract with Amagi, a provider of tools for streaming video platforms, run out, The Desk reports.

The FAST channel was launched in May 2023 on Freevee, Amazon’s free streaming service.

The goal was to “reach audiences who are increasingly looking online to get their news and entertainment," Micah Gelman, director of video for the Post, said at the time, according to The Desk

Earlier this month, Post columnist Ruth Marcus resigned, claiming that Post CEO Will Lewis killed a column she wrote.

The subject was the effort by owner Jeff Bezos to reposition the opinion section of the Post to reflect a pro-market orientation.

David Shipley had already resigned as opinion editor over the move.
