The latest meals from McDonald’s should appeal as much to game-playing adults as their Minecraft-loving kids.
This week McDonald’s announced it has entered the enormous world of Minecraft with its new A Minecraft Movie Meal available April 1, coinciding with Warner Bros.’ “The Minecraft Movie” release on April 4.
McDonald’s fans have been virtually building the chain and menu items into the Minecraft game for years, “from crafting pixel-perfect replicas of our Golden Arches and world-famous menu items, to stacking block upon block into full-on restaurants,” per the brand.
Reportedly the most successful video game of all time, Minecraft has sold over 600 million copies worldwide since it launched in 2011, and, per Search Logistics, now has approximately 204 million monthly active players.

Available for a limited time, the adult-targeted A Minecraft Movie Meal contains the choice of a Big Mac or 10-pc. Chicken McNuggets, with medium fries and a drink and one of six Minecraft collectible inspired both by McDonald’s and Minecraft themes, such as Big Mac Crystal, Birdie Wings and Grimace Egg.
The chain is also offering Nether Flame Sauce,” inspired by the game’s “The Nether,” defined on the Minecraft wiki website as “a dangerous, hell-like dimension containing fire, lava, fungal vegetation and many hostile mobs.” The sauce actually contains “crushed red pepper and cayenne, balanced with hints of garlic and sweetness.”
"When approaching any partnership, we look for the authentic role our brand can play in it. McDonald's fans had already created a presence in the Minecraft game long before the opportunity to partner with the new film," said Jennifer "JJ" Healan, McDonald's vice president, U.S. marketing, brand, content and culture in the announcement. "We built upon what they started and created a totally immersive experience, custom A Minecraft Movie Meals in our restaurants, and collectibles that unlock unique in-game features. “…
Kids of course are not left out of the Minecraft madness. A Minecraft Movie Happy Meal contains the usual kids’ food choices, along with one of 12 film-inspired figurines, along with a scannable code to unlock a Minecraft-inspired digital game.
