Laura Gunderson has been promoted to the title of editor and vice president of content for The Oregonian/OregonLive, effectively immediately.
Previously, Gunderson was managing editor for news for seven years for the publication.
“Laura’s natural leadership, strategic clarity, and deep experience across the newsroom make her the right leader for this moment,” said John F. Maher, president of Oregonian Media Group. “Her commitment to public interest journalism and community engagement will be vital as we navigate the challenges ahead.”
Gunderson started her career at The Oregonian in 1995,, working as a clerk on the sports desk. But her connection with the newsroom predated that: Her grandfather, Al McCready, served as managing editor of The Oregonian in the 1970s and her grandmother Connie McCready worked at the paper before going into politics.
