Layoffs Reported At 'The Portland Tribune'

The Portland (Oregon) Tribune laid off several journalists on Friday.

The layoffs included Dana Haynes, managing editor; Jason Vondersmith, Life section editor; Austin White, sportswriter; and other reporters, according to The Oregonian.

The Tribune newsroom was left with just a couple of journalists and no editor, The Oregonian writes.

The cuts by the Tribune’s parent company, Carpenter Media Group, also affected staffers at other properties in the state.

This is the second round of cuts since Carpenter took over the Tribune last year.

Mississippi-based Carpenter has acquired a number of papers in the Pacific Northwest. But things have not always gone smoothly.

However, Carpenter has continued on its acquisition track, purchasing the assets of Salem Publishing Company, a family-owned company based in Missouri.
