TV A-Go-Go: TiVo, Verizon; TBS, Cingular Deals Boost Mobile TV Options

Partnerships announced Tuesday between TV and wireless phone companies promise to accelerate the pace of mobile TV. The deals, between TiVo and Verizon, and TBS and Cingular, will enable cell-phone users to plan personal TV viewing, or access a myriad of content.

TiVo Mobile, the name of the service, will be downloadable through the Verizon Get It Now handset device. Those who are TiVo subscribers will be able to schedule recordings of their favorite shows outside of the home, using the same interface they are used to with TiVo. Verizon and TiVo are also working together on a marketing campaign for the application, which will be available this summer.

On a similar note, TBS, Inc. announced their video distribution deal with Cingular Wireless, which will provide video content from TBS Inc. brands, including CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and TCM. Nascar.com will also be available as a Premium Channel. The deal will be accessible to customers with Cingular's Unlimited Data Plan.
