Louisiana wants tourists to know it's back in business after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and is launching a regional marketing effort to get the message out. The $5 million ad campaign,
announced yesterday by Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, carries the theme: "Fall in Love with Louisiana All Over Again." A slew of celebrities will appear in the ads for free, including chef and
restaurateur Emeril Lagasse, actors John Goodman and Patricia Clarkson, and musicians Wynton Marsalis and Allen Toussaint. "This new advertising campaign will help counter and reverse the negative
images and misperceptions that are prevalent about Louisiana," Landrieu said. The effort comes after a recent study showed that 34 percent of potential visitors were less interested in visiting
Louisiana since Hurricane Katrina, 20 percent of leisure travelers will not consider visiting Louisiana during hurricane season, and 62 percent believe the scenery has been destroyed. The campaign
will also have a presence in large-circulation national consumer magazines and have a strong interactive and multicultural segment.
