Tom’s Hardware, a publisher of news on the PC hardware and semiconductor industry, has launched a paywall in beta.
The new
offering, Tom’s Hardware Premium, promises a deeper dive into technology news.
“Think of our subscription service as a backstage pass that will give you a new level of access
and insight into the inner workings of the tech world,” writes Paul Alcorn, interim editor in chief, Tom’s Hardware.
The premium
product will provide “news analysis, revealing the story behind the story, and going beyond the headline," Alcorn adds.
Premium subscribers will also get access to
Bench, a new benchmarking tool.
“Bench covers categories like CPUs, GPUs, and Laptops, allowing you to explore individual test results
for a product and compare it directly against others in the same category.” Alcorn says.

The company notes that it has been providing tech journalism for free for almost three
decades.
The new service “will ultimately enable us to invest more time in the painstaking analysis and data collection that define our brand, while also
enabling us to expand the scope and depth of our coverage, bringing you along with us as we explore the latest and greatest in the industry,” Alcorn continues.
