Ray Erku was terminated as editor of The Aspen Times on Tuesday.

A story in the Times said the paper had “parted ways” with Erku. 

The circumstances were unclear. Publisher Sarah Girgis said it was a personal matter. 

Managing editor River Stingray will be the point person for newsroom matters pending the hiring of a new editor. 

Erku, who had served since December 2023, told Aspen Daily News there was a difference of opinion over the direction of the newspaper.
