Newsmax will pay $67 million to settle a defamation suit filed by
Dominion Voting Systems, according to an SEC filing on Monday.
The news network had reported false information about Dominion in the wake of President Trump’s 2020 election loss to
Joe Biden.
Fox News settled a similar lawsuit with Dominion for $787.5 million.
In a statement on Monday, Newsmax said it “has always maintained its reporting was not
defamatory and its coverage was consistent with accepted journalistic standards.”
The company noted that the suit filed in 2021 sought $1.6 billion in
damages.
Newsmax had settled a defamation suit with Smartmatic, another voting machine company, for $40 million.
According to Monday’s
SEC filing, Newsmax will pay the Dominion settlement sum in three installments: $27 million on August 15; $20 million on or before January 15, 2026; and $20 million on or before January 15,
2027.
