Chloe Malle To Replace Anna Wintour As Editor Of 'Vogue U.S.'

As widely anticipated, Condé Nast named Chloe Malle as the head of editorial content for Vogue U.S., effective immediately.

Malle will be in charge of the creative and editorial direction of the brand, reporting to her predecessor, Anna Wintour, who announced she was stepping down from that role in June but retains the title of global editorial director.

In addition to serving as the editor of Vogue.com, heading up digital content, Malle has been the co-host of the Run-Through weekly podcast.

Direct traffic to Vogue.com doubled under Malle’s leadership, and now reaches 14.5 million unique visitors per month. In addition, she increased content by 30% for Vogue Weddings, providing that franchise with a dedicated homepage.

Malle joins the ten heads of content globally.

“I believe that warmth, joy, experience, and keen vision are what Vogue will thrive on through the years ahead,” Wintour says. “At a moment of change both within fashion and outside it, Vogue must continue to be both the standard-bearer and the boundary-pushing leader. Chloe has proven often that she can find the balance between American Vogue's long, singular history and its future on the front lines of the new.”

Wintour adds: “I am so excited to continue working with her, as her mentor but also as her student, while she leads us and our audiences where we've never been before.”

Malle notes, “I’ve spent my career at Vogue, working in roles across every platform — from print to digital, audio to video, events and social media. I love the title, I love the content we create, and I love the editors who create it. Vogue has already shaped who I am, now I’m excited at the prospect of shaping Vogue. I look forward to embedding myself even more fully across print, video, and events — fostering the true cross-platform plurality that our audience craves and demands.”

The new editor adds she feels “incredibly fortunate to still have Anna just down the hall as my mentor."

Starting at Vogue in 2011, Male has served as social editor and a contributing editor.

Malle brings an impressive lineage to the brand. She is the daughter of the late French film director Louis Malle, who directed everything from "Elevator to the Gallows" to "Atlantic City," and American actress Candace Bergen.
