'The Boston Globe' Seeks To Serve Communities With Newsletters

The Boston Globe is attempting to strengthen its topical and regional coverage via three newsletters: Starting Point, Trendlines, and Camberville & beyond.

The goal is to deliver curated news, deeply reported stories and inbox-only content and resources, the Globe says in its announcement.

"These newsletters act as invaluable sources of highly curated news, information, and resources for our readers. Says Jacqué Palmer, the Globe's senior editorial director for newsletters. "We're as mindful of the journalism that anchors these newsletters as we are about the needs of the audience that reads them."

The Globe describes the newsletters as follows:

  • Starting Point is a quick look at the top news of the day and a take on timely issues, written by Ian Prasad Philbrick.
  • Camberville & beyond is hyper-local news for the communities of Cambridge and Somerville, written by Joshua Miller.
  • Trendlines focuses on the latest business trends that shape our society, including technology, innovation, culture and lifestyle, and written by Larry Edelman.

"Larry, Josh, and Ian are all deeply immersed in the areas they cover, and very passionate about giving New Englanders what they need to live their lives as the news changes quickly hour to hour," says Heather Ciras, deputy managing editor, audience. "For us at the Globe, newsletters are expressions of journalistic voice, trust, and community — driving habit, loyalty, and lifetime value in a subscription-first newsroom."
