Slam Dunk For Nostalgia: Pizza Hut Touts 'Space Jam'

Pizza Hut’s latest March Madness teamup celebrates the 30th anniversary of the highest-grossing basketball movie of all time.

The brand this week rolls out its partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products’  (WBDGCP ) “Space Jam,” the 1996 live-action animated sports comedy film starring Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny. The film grossed over $250 million at the box office upon release.

Running throughout the tournament, Pizza Hut offers a Space Jam x Triple Treat Box for $21.99, which includes two medium pizzas made with Pizza Hut’s new hand-tossed crust, with breadsticks and cinnamon sticks in limited-edition “Space Jam” packaging. The box is only available online or through the Pizza Hut app.

Customers who join the pizza chain’s Hut Rewards program during March Madness will have access to “Space Jam”–themed merchandise drops, such as a Space Jam letterman jacket, warmup jackets and jerseys. The new merch is exclusively available for free to Hut Rewards members. Customers can also enter to win a year of free pizza through April 7 by playing  “Space Jam”-inspired online games.

“Partnering with WBDGCP to showcase ‘Space Jam’ allows us to tap into the culture and nostalgia that generations of fans love, while bringing something new and unexpected to game night,” said Melissa Friebe, CMO at Pizza Hut.

The Bugs and Lola Bunny characters from the film will make real-life appearance on the Pizza Hut stage at the March Madness Men’s Final Four Tip-Off Tailgate from April 3-6.

The "Space Jam" collab comes on the heels of the chain’s announcement last week of its revamped Hand Tossed recipe, which is now part of the brand’s “Hut Crust” lineup along with Tavern Style and Thin 'N Crispy crusts.
