Politico has named Jonathan Greenberger,
executive vice president since 2024, as global editor in chief, effective May 1.
Greenberger takes over from John Harris, who will now hold the title of
chairman.
Among other things, Greenberger is credited with turning Politico into a multi-platform publisher.
“Jonathan
Greenberger is an innovator,” says Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer, Politico’s German parent, which also owns Business Insider,
Bild and Welt. “With his tech savviness, journalistic excellence, and experience across platforms, he will shape Politico’s next disruptive
chapter.”
Harris comments: “We were looking for a leader with impeccable journalistic values, and we found that in Jonathan Greenberger, but this choice
represents much more. Jonathan's candidacy prevailed in a highly competitive field of contenders because of his ideas and achievements in innovation and driving swift organization-wide
change.”

Presumably, Greenberger agrees with the statement Döpfner made last July concerning artificial intelligence: “Nobody in the company has to
explain in the company why she or he is using AI to do something — whether to prepare a presentation or analyze a document. You only have to explain if you didn’t use
AI.”
Prior to joining Politico, Greenberger was the youngest executive producer in the history of ABC’s “This Week” and served as
the Washington Bureau Chief of ABC News for almost a decade. He holds a law degree from Stanford.
“I'm grateful for the trust Goli, John, and Mathias have placed in me,”
Greenberger says in a statement. “Politico’s newsroom is filled with over 500 world-class journalists who have unmatched sourcing in the globe's most powerful capitals. My job is to push
our journalism further and faster than ever before.”
Greenberger adds, “By investing in our journalists and embracing the technologies that extend their
reach, we will accelerate and expand the agenda-setting and market-moving coverage our audience expects."
Also effective May 1, Dasha Burns will add the role of global
anchor to her existing portfolio as White House bureau chief, host of "The Conversation" and Playbook chief correspondence.
Burns will work with Greenberger to add new video and audio formats in an effort to speed up
Politico’s evolution into a multimedia brand.
“Since joining Politico, I’ve been struck by the strength of its journalism and the clarity of its ambitious
mission," Burns said. "As Politico global anchor, my focus will be on expanding our reach across platforms, deepening our relevance with audiences, and
strengthening Politico’s position as a leading global source for political news and analysis.”
