Clear Channel Expects UK Outdoor Consolidation

  • April 3, 2006
Paul Meyer, global president of Clear Channel Outdoor, forecast more acquisitions of mid-range British outdoor advertising companies in the near future in an interview Friday--although it is unclear whether Clear Channel will be making acquisitions of its own. Meyer made this prediction when asked what Clear Channel president and CFO Randall Mays meant when he forecast a "rationalization" of the UK outdoor market in his interview with Banc of America Analyst Jonathan Jacoby on Thursday morning.

"Acquisitions would likely focus on smaller competitors, not the four big wheels, according to Meyer: "There are certainly a number of smaller companies--and I'm sure that Decaux, for example, has been thinking about acquiring some of these." But "in the short term, I don't think any of the large companies are going to be acquired by one of the other principal players." -- Erik Sass
