One in five online users, or 20 percent, accessed the Web through public Wi-Fi connections last year, up from 14 percent in 2004, according to a new study by Jupiter Research. The report--based on an
April 2005 survey of 2,112 consumers and a September 2004 survey of 2,243 consumers--attributed the increase to increased awareness of Wi-Fi, availability of access and devices with embedded Wi-Fi
capabilities. But, while users are turning to Wi-Fi, they don't want to pay for it; 58 percent of online users say they only use hotspots when they're free.
