Meacham Becomes Newsweek Editor, Whitaker Upped To VP In Digital Arena

Jon Meacham succeeds Mark Whitaker as editor of Newsweek. Meacham will have day-to-day responsibility for the newsweekly. Meacham joined Newsweek in January 1995 and became the National Affairs editor later that year. His cover stories run the gamut from politics to religion. In 1998, he edited the magazine's coverage of the Monica Lewinsky affair and President Bill Clinton's impeachment. Whitaker held the top editorial post for nearly eight years and earned four National Magazine Awards. He has been named vp and editor in chief of New Ventures of Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI), the digital arm of the Washington Post Co.
